Getting Started¶
Cow Sites is a tool for building galleries. You can call it whatever you want, but in essence it revolves around pictures, and the kick of Cow Sites is its opinionated approach to the layout - in other words, we made some decisions for you so you can focus on uploading you art rather than messing around with a drag&drop layout editor.
Your first site¶
Once you create a Cow Sites account, you’ll be prompted to create a new site:
Each account can have multiple, completely independent sites. A site contains pages, footer links, and most importantly: its design!
Pages¶
A page includes text, or pictures, or both (usually both).
As you may have noticed, one of these pictures is the “main” picture; it will appear next to the text, if there’s any.
If there isn’t any text, it will still appear but it’ll look kinda weird :P
Most changes you make will take effect immediately. If your site is big (has a lot of pictures/pages), they make take a couple of seconds.
Pictures¶
The pictures in the page can be reordered by dragging. You can crop a picture by hitting the “Edit” button, which will take you to a screen where you can also give a title and a description to the picture!
The original version of the picture will always be available, i.e. your cropping won’t replace the image in Cow Site’s storage, but only alter the way it’s displayed on your site. So you can go crazy with your cropping and just revert back if needed.
Design¶
That’s the whole point of Cow Sites! This is where you actually put the fun back in computing. This page includes a big bunch of fun knobs to tweak. Changes will only go into effect once you hit the submit button.
Getting a nice domain¶
As you may have noticed, your site will have an address in the format of “<YOURSITE>.cowsite.net”. If you’d like to replace it with an address of your own, such as “<YOURSITE>.com”, you can purchase a domain by clicking here when editing a site:
After picking your domian and purchasing it, we will install it in up to 24 hours and will update your website to use it. If anything goes wrong, please email us at hello@cowsites.net!
